Choosing Your WWW Domain Name(s)

Although millions of names have already been registered (almost 700,000 dot CA names are taken), we still have many options; we just need to be more creative. Flickr is a good example. Remove that one ‘e’ and you have a great name which was not already taken.

To see if your choices are available go to CIRA and search for the dot CA name you want. (Register is a good place to look for dot COM, ORG, NET, BIZ, INFO, and other domain names.)

Avoid longer names and hyphens. You will be giving out your web site and email addresses many times; make it easy to say, easy to spell, and easy for your clients and prospects to remember.

Domain names cost only $10/year so choose as many as you like and point them all to your website. For example you can register both smith.ca and smith.com and point them both to your site so visitors can find you using either name.
