Definition of Conversion in Web Marketing

by Ron Foreman on September 21, 2008

A conversion occurs when a visitor reaches a goal established by the marketer. This goal page could be a purchase confirmation page, a “thank you for registering” page, a download page, or an online presentation.

Optionally, goals may be combined with a defined Funnel – a series of pages through which the user must navigate in order to reach a goal.

The marketer defines the goal in the Goal Settings section of a Google Analytics profile.
